2020 Nissan Sentra Review

The Nissan Sentra is Reinvented for 2020

You'd like a compact car that's fuel-efficient and roomy enough that you and your clan don't feel cramped. Impossible? Not with the 2020 Nissan Sentra. This little sedan has more front legroom and rear hip room than most cars in its class. Nissan redesigned the Sentra to give it more power and standard safety features than before. It even has a sportier shape. Once you've driven the new Sentra, it may change the way you think about compact cars.

What's New with the Nissan Sentra for 2020?

Nissan gave the Sentra more than just a facelift for 2020. They rebuilt it from the ground up, giving it a lower, wider platform, a longer wheelbase, and a new independent rear suspension. These changes alone give it vastly better handling. Take the new Sentra for a spin, and you'll see how its upgraded engine gives it more oomph for your commute.

Nissan didn't stop there - they revamped the Sentra's appearance as well. It now has a sleeker profile, with sculpted sides, curvier fenders and dramatic creases for a look that's sure to turn heads. A newly available two-tone black roof really makes the new Sentra stand out.

The 2020 Nissan Sentra is available in S, SV, and SR trim levels, so you can choose one that has all the features you like. Its also now comes in eight single-color options that include:

  • Gun Metallic
  • Super Black
  • Brilliant Silver Metallic
  • Aspen White TriCoat
  • Fresh Powder
  • Electric Blue Metallic
  • Rosewood Metallic
  • Scarlet Ember TriCoat

Two-tone color options include Super Black/Gun Metallic and Super Black/Monarch Orange Metallic.

2020 Nissan Sentra Interior/Technology

There's plenty of space to stretch out and relax in the 2020 Nissan Sentra. It has over 110 cubic feet of passenger volume and improved cabin materials so everyone can feel comfortable in this five-seat sedan. Cloth-covered front bucket seats with six-way manual adjustments are standard, while six-way power and two-way power lumbar seats are available in the Premium Package. It's a cinch to see out the front and back of the Sentra, and an available surround-view camera makes it even easier.

The Sentra's sizeable trunk has over 14 cubic feet of space for your groceries or luggage. Its wide opening and low liftover makes loading and unloading a breeze. If you need more room, its 60/40-split rear seats fold down.

You'll also enjoy peace and quiet inside when you want it, because the Sentra has plenty of interior insulation and sound-deadening materials.

Standard amenities in the Sentra include:

Optional features in the new Nissan Sentra include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a power moonroof, heated front seats, and an eight-speaker Bose stereo system.

2020 Nissan Sentra Performance

Since its only just over 182 inches long, the 2020 Nissan Sentra is easy to maneuver and park in the city. Still, the new Sentra accelerates faster than the outgoing model, with a new 149-horsepower inline four-cylinder engine that's 20 percent more powerful. Nissan also improved the Sentra's continuously variable automatic transmission for smoother shifts and a sportier feel. Its independent rear suspension and electric power steering give it softer, but more responsive handling on curvy or bumpy roads.

The new Sentra's lower, wider stance also enhances its sports-car feel. You can trust it to be your every-day car, since the Sentra gets a predicted reliability rating of three out of five from J.D. Power. Its drive mode selector can be toggled between ECO and Sport modes for better fuel economy or more athletic driving dynamics.

Like most compact cars, the Sentra gets exceptional gas mileage. When properly equipped, it gets 29 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. Active grille shutters control airflow for varying speeds, helping the Sentra get optimal fuel economy at all times. Fitted with a 12.4-gallon gas tank, the 2020 Sentra has an estimated maximum range of 409 miles.

2020 Nissan Sentra Safety

You'll feel secure in the 2020 Nissan Sentra, which has an advanced air bag system with 10 airbags for your protection. Last year's model earned the highest rating of Good in every crash test from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the 2020 model has more standard active safety features than ever to help you avoid accidents. Its Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of driver assistance features includes, but is not limited to:

  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rear cross traffic alert

Optional driver assistance features in the new Nissan Sentra include intelligent cruise control, a 7-inch drive assist display, and traffic sign recognition.

The 2020 Nissan Sentra has more power, better handling, and more standard safety technology. It also has a more comfortable ride and better cabin materials.

You'll have added peace of mind with the new Sentra's warranties. Nissan backs it with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

There are other compact cars you could choose, but most don't have the cabin space or safety tech that the Nissan Sentra offers. Despite its many features and roomy interior, the Sentra is one of the least expensive vehicles in its class. It should be at the top of your list of compact cars.
